“Fever” addressed hallucinations, that humans experience in the state of high fever. For “Fever” 3D-models of many different hands were made based on photographs, that float through space. With radical transformation and suspension, the visitor is confronted with the perception of his own body in relation to its surrounding as well as in relation to other bodies.
Concept by Karolina Markiewicz and Pascal Piron
The idea behind this piece of art comes from the Luxembourgian artists Karolina Markiewicz and Pascal Piron, whose collaborative works combine film, visual art and theatre. Karolina Markiewicz studied political science, philosophy and theatre and works as a film and theatre director. Pascal Piron studied visual arts and works as an artist and film director. Both work also as teachers.
Straightlabs is already supporting the duo on the VR-experience “Sublimation”. This interactive VR-experience brings the visitor nearer to the butoh dance. The duo is currently also working on “My Identity”, a VR-experience about exile and resilience and on “The Living Witness”, a documentary about anti-Semitism.
Technical realization by Fabrizio Palmas, Stefan Laimer and Antoine Thiry
For the technical realization of “Fever” are responsible three members of the straightlabs-team: Fabrizio Palmas as technical director, Stefan Laimer as UX creative technologist und Antoine Thiry as VFX creative technologist. “We are very happy to be able to make the ideas of Fever technically possible and to be able to use the VR-technology for artistic works”, so Fabrizio Palmas.
Fabrizio Palmas got to know the duo at the first Creators’ Lab in 2017, where he has been acting as a mentor ever since. “It was a nice professional but also human exchange, he was dealing with the questions of all the 21 participants and all their projects”, so Karolina Markiewicz and Pascal Piron.
“Fever” will be shown for the European Month of Photography (EMOP) from 16thMay to 24thJune at “Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’art contemporain” as part of the series Bodyfiction(s). It will simultaneously be released at the Cannes Film Festival in the Luxembourgian Pavilion.
